Batts are the low-cost solution for clean and fast insulation with dependable R-value performance.

Though most associated with open cavity walls, batts can also be used to insulate ceilings and floors.

Conventional fiberglass batt products for new homes and commercial structures are available for 2x4 walls:

• R11 is too light for most applications in Kansas
• R13 is typically recommended in local stores for 2x4 walls
• R15 is the best value, densest batt, meeting minimum requirements

And for 2x6 walls:

• R19 exceeds minimum requirements
• R21 is the best value, densest batt for 2x6 walls

The only way to improve on the R-values achievable with conventional batts is with spray-applied insulation.

Regardless of the insulation type, the full R-value can only be achieved with proper installation.
